It is said that looks are deceptive, but I believe that the outer appearance and personality of a person do play a significant role in their lives, as the first impression is the last impression. Nowadays personality development has become so important that people even join classes for various events in their lives. For interviews for jobs, for a beauty pageants, not only for their public lives but also for improvement in their personal lives.
Just like how your outfit, grooming, personality, and behavior define the impression you leave on others, so does your vehicle! The condition and looks of a vehicle go a long way to speak about the owner’s personality and nature in life. It is a popular saying that a man is known by his shoes, you must have heard it somewhere or other, just like that a man’s vehicle is also a representation of himself and his image!
A handsome gentleman stepping out of a car, no matter how expensive or luxurious the model if it is not well maintained or dirty, will spoil the whole impression no matter whether he goes for a business meeting, an outing with friends, or on a date. In today’s modern world with a fast-paced lifestyle, our car has become our second home.
Home is the best place after a long day’s work and that’s why you take care of your home, keep it neat and clean with a good ambiance so that you can enjoy your time at your home. Similarly, grooming and taking care of your car from the outside as well as the inside is vital. If you have plans with friends and family or have a date with your romantic partner you would not only dress up properly but would also like to drive or be driven in a beautifully maintained and brand-new-looking car!
If your house is dirty, unkempt, or shabby you don’t feel like spending much time inside, similarly, if your vehicle is dirty, full of scratches and faded paint you won’t feel like driving around in it much now, would you? Imagine after a hard day of work you are on your way back home and are stuck in the middle of traffic for everyone to see you in your dirty car, you would just hate that now, wouldn’t you? Well of course you would, who wouldn’t?
Just think back to when you bought your first car. All the research and comparison between models, discussing the pros and cons, the visits made to the showrooms, taking test drives, and then finally choosing that brand new shiny model which best suits your needs and desires. Now hold that image of your brand-new car shining in the showroom display just as you saw it on your first day. How wonderful would it be if only your car would stay glossy, shiny, and brand-new for years to come? However, that is easier said than done. Almost everyone who buys a new car or bike purchases some kind of accessory or customization for their vehicle to personalize it. However, only less than 60% of new car owners actually purchase any accessories or products for their car’s maintenance and aftercare! It is also a fact that approximately 90% of people who do purchase after-care products for their vehicle end up only using these products a mere 2-3 times a year. When you buy a brand-new car or bike, you dream about your new vehicle day and night, you want to drive it around, show it to your friends and family or simply admire its beauty and shine. You take care of your car or bike every day without fail and do so with enthusiasm and gusto only found among those who are the owner of a new vehicle. However, that energy tends to fizzle out in some time, a week, or a month and then a person tends to get used to it. Also, with the fast-paced lifestyle that most people are leading these days, it is simply not possible to take rigorous care of your vehicle every day. As a result, your car starts losing its shine and gloss, the color of the paint starts fading, and some minor scratches start appearing on the body. Slowly, but surely, your brand-new car transitions towards the used and old look. A select few car owners are able to carve out the time and devotion to personally take care of their cars on a daily basis along with learning the proper way of maintenance and aftercare for all parts of their vehicle, however, that is not a possible option for most people. Most people get a local car washer on a daily or weekly basis. Now in most cases, this ends up doing more harm than good as these washer boys use the same cloth for all cars unless you provide them with a towel or cloth for your vehicle, in fact, most of these boys don’t even bother using the towels provided by the owners and continue using their own towels to save time and effort. They end up causing the much hated ‘swirl-marks’ and fine scratches on the body of your vehicle. Some people are able to afford the time, money, and effort for a regular visit to Detailing Stations or Car-Spas for a complete touch-up for their cars. That works fine for a while, however, it is not a permanent solution. As such repeated visits on a regular basis are required, every week, fortnight, or month depending on usage, to ensure that the brand-new look is maintained. All this turns out to be quite expensive and time-consuming. Also, it turns out to be inconvenient more often than not to take the vehicle for its regular treatment. Traditional regular-basis treatments available at the majority of washing/service/detailing stations include paint restoration, paint correction, pressure wash, shampoo, wax polishing, dry cleaning, and various other services which cover both the exterior as well as the interior of your vehicle. However, if you want to save your valuable money, effort, and time, the traditional approach won’t be your cup of tea. In today’s lifestyle, weekdays are filled with work and the weekends and other holidays end up getting reserved for friends & family, this lifestyle makes the aspect of going for regular visits to detailing stations on your off days even less appealing. Now some people would say that just taking care and precaution while using your vehicle allows you to avoid damage to your car’s look and retain that shiny look for a longer time. However, not all wear and tear can be avoided, some types of damage are simply unavoidable. Imagine parking your vehicle in a public parking lot or in a crowded market or in some narrow service lane. It is a common occurrence for vehicles to get scratched by mistake or on purpose in such crowded or public areas. Even neglecting that aspect, the wear and tear caused over time by the variations in temperature, humidity, salinity due to climatic conditions, seasonal changes, and other man-made and natural reasons alone are enough to completely wear down the gloss, shine, and color of your car’s paint and exterior body!
Traditional methods of paint restoration primarily rely on the following, first, the vehicle is given a simple wash using a pressure washer to clean the exterior layer of dirt and dust on the vehicle. Next “Car-shampoo” or shampoo is applied using a foam spray gun for removing the dirt and grime sticking even after washing. Once the vehicle is completely clean and dried off, it is ready for the actual paint restoration. “Rubbing” and “Buffing” are two simple steps used by detailers using polishes and glaze compounds, to both remove the fine and deep scratches and swirl marks as well as to increase the gloss, shine, and color of the vehicle’s exterior painted metallic body. This is done by hand-held machines called Rotary Polishers or DA-Polishers (Dual-Action). These are used to effectively & efficiently rub in the compounds and polish into the surface of the vehicle using “pads” of different textures, materials, and hardness suitable for the condition of the vehicle. Harder pads are used in combination with rubbing compounds for removing scratches, while soft pads are used in combination with buffing compounds to increase the gloss and shine. Now that the vehicle has been polished and its painted body has been brought to the maximum possible shine and gloss, the vehicle’s exterior paint restoration is complete. Some customers go one step further by getting wax coating or Teflon coating done on their vehicle after the paint restoration to protect and preserve the gloss and shine of their restored car for a bit longer. However, there are various limitations to using wax or Teflon coating.
First, let us understand what wax coating is. Wax coating refers to the process of manually buffing a layer of wax, portion by portion, on your car’s painted surface. As you can imagine this process is lengthy and time-consuming. It takes a minimum of 2-3 hours to apply the wax coating all over the car, and this doesn’t even include the time taken for preparatory work like shampoo and paint correction! This makes the entire process highly time-consuming. There is not a single wax coating in the world that lasts as long as even a single year, no matter how expensive or premium the wax is. The wax coating needs to be reapplied after every 2-4 months depending on the product. Now once your vehicle has been coated with wax you have to take further precautions and steps to ensure that the coating is not wasted or eroded off. First of all, you can’t wash your car with regular water and shampoo. You will require special Ph-neutral shampoos to wash your car so as to ensure that the applied layer of wax coating is not accidentally washed off along with the dirt and grime! Now wax coating gives your car’s body a “hydrophobic effect”, albeit very limited. You can see the water “beading” to a certain extent on the applied body of your car, however, therein lies the problem. The very process of water beading leads to water sitting idle on the surface of your vehicle, now if that water is even slightly contaminated with dust there is a chance of the clear coat of your car’s painted body getting corroded! This can be avoided by properly drying off your car, which again leads to the initial conundrum of not being able to properly maintain your car yourself on a regular basis and thus leading to irregular and improper cleaning, which finally leads to more scratches and swirl marks for your precious car.
Now let us understand Teflon coatings. Teflon coatings are primarily for adding some extra gloss to your vehicle which has been painted correctly. Teflon coating also provides some minor protection against very light and light scratches, however, there is close to zero “hydrophobicity” visible after applying Teflon coatings. As such while it doesn’t have the issue of water beads sitting idle on your car and corroding the clear coat, like in wax coating, it also doesn’t prevent water, dust, and oil from sticking to the surface of your vehicle and forming a layer of dirt and grime. While Teflon coatings are waterproof and allow you to clean and wash the vehicle without worrying about rusting, they tend to have a short lifetime of 8-9 months maximum, that too when the car is maintained properly, otherwise the coating will wear out much faster.
We need to understand the paint that these coatings are supposed to protect. The paint that we see on our car’s exterior body is actually composed of multiple different layers. There are five layers to our car’s painted exterior body. The layer at the bottom is the “substrate” or in other words the metal body of the car. The second layer from the bottom is the e-coat or electro-coat. Electrocoating or electro-deposition coating is the process of using electric current to deposit paint on a surface. The third layer is the Primer coat which is necessary for binding the base coat of paint, which is the fourth layer, properly with the metal surface. The fifth and topmost layer is the Clearcoat. Most of the surface blemishes, scratches, etch marks, and swirl marks are actually just damages on this Clear coat of our car’s painted body. Most of the wear and tear that our cars have to endure on a regular basis doesn’t penetrate any deeper than the first two layers, i.e., the clear coat and the base coat. Only the deep scratches, cuts, or abrasions manage to damage beyond the base coat and penetrate the layer of primer. Now the clear coat is a transparent glossy coating responsible for mainly two things. It increases the shine, gloss, and depth of color of the base coat of paint as well as acts as a final covering over the base coat, separating it from direct exposure to the atmosphere and providing some level of protection. No matter which coating solution you choose for your car it is all applied on top of this layer of clear coat.
If only there was a one-step solution that would not only protect your vehicle for a significantly long period of time saving you valuable time and effort but also be economical overall considering the years of hassle-free maintenance and protection that it would provide. A solution that would protect your car from scratches from stones, pebbles, grit, dust, etc. A solution that would protect your car’s paint from oxidation and erosion, while providing superior “hydrophobicity” allowing no dirt, dust, bird droppings, or other stains to stick to the body of your car!
As it turns out there is such a solution available in the market, in fact, there are not just one but two such solutions available, which not only protect and preserve the look of your brand-new car but also enhance its shine to a mirror-like gloss in which you can see your reflection! Not only is it economical in the long run but it also does not change the original thickness of your vehicle’s surface as the coating solution only forms a layer that is thinner than human hair!! Yet it successfully protects that brand-new look of your car with hassle-free maintenance. These amazing One-step solutions are known as Nano-Ceramic Coating & Nano-Graphene Coating, or Ceramic Coating & Graphene Coating!!
These coating solutions are the most advanced in the market in terms of the technology used as they are based on “nano-technology”! There is a wide range of ceramic & graphene coating brands and products available in the market, however, just like how one shoe doesn’t fit all, there is no single product that is perfect for everyone. To be able to choose the best-suited protection solution for your car we need to understand just what these coatings are, how they work, and how their performance and durability are affected due to various factors like sunlight (UV-rays), temperature, humidity, pollution, dirt, acids or industrial chemicals, oxidation, erosion, rusting, physical impacts, etc. At Taciturn, it is our goal to manufacture the purest,
professional-grade nano-ceramic & nano-graphene coatings especially engineered for the climatic conditions of the Indian sub-continent!
